15th Sadquain Awards to be held soon

KARA CHI - Community Development Department (CDD) of CDGK will organise the 15th Sadquain Awards ceremony in the third week of August, as all preparations have been completed in this regard.    The department has requested City Nazim Mustafa Kamal to be the chief guest at the event, The Nation has learnt on Friday.       Sources in the CDD said that this year the prize money for the winning painters and calligraphers had also been increased and record number of 286 young artists from across the country would participate in the ceremony, scheduled to be held at Gallery Sadquain at Frere Hall library. The EDO, CDD, Rehana Saif said that that all arrangements had been completed and the department had requested the city nazim to be the chief guest of the ceremony. She said that various other steps and measures would be announced at the event like establishing City Library and renewal of much awaited promotion of art related project, the Awan-e-Riffat Fayzee Rahamin, where the construction work had started. It may be noted that Sadquain Awards is an annual event organised under the argis of CDGK to promote art and encourage artists' community. Participants send their two paintings to participate in this annual event. A five-member committee comprising senior and renowned artists and critics will select the winner. This year committee comprising of renowned artists Mashkoor Raza, Jimmy Engineer, Ustad Abdul Rauf, Maojarie Hussain, and Shakeel Ismail. Informed sources told the Nation that the committee has given its judgement about the participants' which is confidential and would be made public on the day of Sadaquai Awards. DO cultural wing of CDD, Naheed Abida said that 286 artists send their 586 paintings and calligraphy for the competition. She said that Sadquain awards ceremony would be a one-day event while exhibition would be continued for three days.
