Four killed as gunmen go on the rampage; 4 bodies found

KARACHI – Four people were killed in separate acts of violence while four bodies were recovered in the metropolis on Monday.A man belonging to Shia sect was gunned down within the precincts of the Rizvia Police Station. Identified as Qamber Naqvi, 30, son of Younus Naqvi, the victim used to run a shop at a mobile market in Sakhi Hassan locality. He was on the way to his workplace, when two armed men, riding a motorcycle, targeted him near Nazimabad Inquiry Office. He was hit by three bullets and died instantly. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for autopsy. Apparently it was a sectarian killing, police officials said, adding that the victim had affiliation with the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen. No case was registered till the filling of this report.Meanwhile, a worker of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, namely Abdul Khaliq, 28, who was wounded in an attack in Organi Town on Friday, succumbed to his gunshot wounds at a private hospital. In Gulshan-e-Maymar area, unidentified gunmen mowed down a general store owner. Police officials said the victim, 30-year-old Zahid, son of Nazeer, was returning home from his shop in Nazimabad area, when a bike-borne duo opened fire on him. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. According to DSP Qamar Ahmed, the victim had affiliation with any party. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained until the filing of this report.In SITE area, a man, namely Anwar Ali, 40, son of Sharafat Hussain, was killed by three unidentified attackers, riding a bike. Officials of the SITE A-Section Police Station said the victim was a factory worker. His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for autopsy and later handed over to his heirs. Another man belonging to Shia sect, namely Rameez Hussain Zaidi, was shot and wounded in a targeted attack in Mehmoodabad area. According to police officials, the injured was a key witness in the Nayyar Zaidi murder case. Two years ago, Nayyar Zaidi was killed in an armed assault in Ferozabad area. The officials further said that Rameez Zaidi was standing at a bus stop, when unidentified armed riders appeared and opened fire on him. Doctors at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre said the 23-year-old man was in a critical condition. Meanwhile, sack-packed bullet-riddled body of a man was found from a furniture market within the remit of the Aram Bagh Police Station. The victim’s hands and legs had been tied up with a rope. According to police officials, unidentified abductors had taken him captive and threw his body at an abandoned place after killing him. The body was moved to a morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification after the completion of medico-legal formalities at the CHK. Another gunny bag body was recovered from North Nazimabad area. It was shifted to the ASH, where the victim was identified as Javed Khan, 22, son of Sultan Khan. Police officials said the victim was a labourer by profession and resided in the same area. He was kidnapped four days ago, the officials said, suspecting that he might have been killed over personal enmity. Body of an elderly man, namely Munawar Ali, 60, son of Qamar Ali, was found from his house located within the remit the Malir City Police Station. Investigators said the victim’s hands and legs had been tied up with a rope and his body had severe torture marks. They said the deceased was a retired employee of the Shipping Corporation, suspecting that he might have been killed over rivalry.Meanwhile, body of a woman was found at her house in North Nazimabad area. The victim was identified as Saima, 27. Police officials alleged that her husband, namely Khalid, killed her over the suspicion that she might have illicit relations with someone. The accused have been arrested and a case registered against him.
