KARACHI – Four people were killed and two injured over a petty issue after a tribal jirga in Sohrab Goth area on Saturday.

The said girl, whose name was not quoted, lodged complain before her brother-in-law Irshad Khan, 40, son of Gul Khan. Irshad, who was an active member of area Amman committee, took serious notice and called Jirga to sort out the matter. Subsequently, the jirga had decided to send these persons into police custody for legal action.
Following the said decision, the committee members, who were on the way to bring these persons into police custody, came under an armed attack. Resultantly, four out of six committee members including Irshad, Sher Alam, 25, two brothers namely Mir Alam, 35, and Khair Alam were killed on the spot. Police said Irshad Mehsud is the member of local Khidmat Amman Committee based in Sohrab Goth while three others including two brothers lived in same locality.
Later, the police conducted raid in the said area and detained some 25 persons to ascertain the facts behind the said incident. Initial reports suggested that two groups ie, Afghan and Pakhtun had engaged in an armed scuffle over some other issue.
He said the matter was disclosed by the detained persons during investigation. All the victims, who hailed from Waziristan, were laid to rest in a local graveyard at Janjhar Goth after formal funeral procession.
DSP said that the culprits’ associates had nabbed the Amman Committee members over misbehaving with sister-in-law of the committee’s chairman Irshad Mehsud. They were being transported to the police station when their Afghan companions came on motorcycles and sprayed bullets on them and later they easily managed to get their companions free. DSP Iftikhar said the case would be registered after Jirga, which is going to be held shortly.
Meanwhile in separate incidents, three people were killed in different parts of the metropolis here on Saturday.
Gunmen, riding a motorbike, killed one and injured another at Nishtar Road near Ali Bhai Auditorium within the limits of Soldier Bazaar police station. Both the victims were friends including Arshad Abdul Rasheed and Bilal Nasir. They were sitting at a tire puncture shop, when assailants came and sprayed bullets. Both of them sustained bullet injuries and rushed to Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors pronounced the death of Arshad while admitted Bilal with critical wounds.
Police said victim was the resident of Tahro Lane Garden, West and his elder brother Moosa Baloch had an affiliation with outlawed Peoples Amman Committee, was also killed in the same manner a few days ago. No case was registered till the filing of the report.
Separately, police found bullet-riddled body of a man from Sarya Gali Old Timber Market within the remits of Nappier police station. Deceased identified as a Naveed Khan, 31, son of Siddique Khan was kidnapped near his residence located in Chakiwara, Lyari on June 7.
He was shot six times and had several marks of torture. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital for legal formalities and later handed over his elder brother Zubair. Similarly, another tortured-mark body of around four-day-old was recovered from Lyari Naddi located at Mauripur Road in Shershah police precincts. SHO Malik Nawaz said the deceased Syed Raheel Shah, 35 son of Javed Hussain Shah, was killed by unidentified culprits some four days ago. He said the victim, who was kidnapped, tortured and then murdered, hailed from Haripur Hazara. Later his body was moved to morgue after post-mortem at Civil Hospital.
