SHC orders delimitation of Naushahro Feroze



KARACHI  - The Sind High Court on Tuesday ordered for immediate delimitation of Naushahro Feroze’s five provincial assembly constituencies and two national assembly constituencies within 30 days.
The court also rejected an earlier reply submitted by the Election Commission of Pakistan that had sought to declare the delimitation before a fresh census as illegal.
The Sindh High Court issued the delimitation order on a petition filed by Member of National Assembly Mureed Ali Shah, an independent political figure, who said his relatives had won the general election for the national and provincial assemblies from 1936 to 2002 in the district.
The court had issued an order in this regards earlier as well but it was not implemented following which Member Provincial Assembly Zafar Ali Shah had filed another petition in the Sindh High Court seeking delimitation of Naushahro Feroze’s constituencies based on the population.
Both the petitioners had said that the previous delimitation of the constituency had taken place to serve the interests of one particular political party.
The Election Commission of Pakistan had said in its reply submitted in the court that according to the constitution delimitation was not possible before conducting a fresh census first.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami’s former representatives have demanded the government to take notice over the loss of precious lives in road accidents due to the poor condition of roads, flyovers and bridges in the City.
In a joint statement on Tuesday, Jamaat-i-Islami’s ex-representatives Muzaffar Ahmed Hashmi, Laeeq Ahmed, Nasrullah Shaji, Younus Barai and Hameedullah Khan Advocate have expressed their deep concern over the loss of precious lives in road accidents.
They added that Sindh government with billions of rupees funds has yet not initiated any mega development scheme for the people of the metropolis.
The tempo of current development works is time-consuming and very slow which is causing huge traffic jams.
They demanded the government to repair the old and poor roads on immediate measures and give relief to people from the continuous increasing traffic woes which are bringing several physic problems.
