KARACHI  - Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has condemned the murder of the brother of Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Shakir Ali.The Chief Minister telephoned Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad in Dubai and expressed his condolences over the killing of the brother of former MPA of the MQM, a spokesman to the Chief Minister said in a statement late Tuesday.He said the IG Police Sindh and the director general Rangers have been directed to ensure all possible steps to improve law and order situation in the city and protect the life and property of the people.The spokesman further said the law enforcement agencies have been instructed to increase patrolling and keep an eye on anti-social elements. He said the Chief Minister has also called for ensuring immediate arrest of the killers of Shakir Ali’s brother to bring them to justice.Police arrest 31 criminals during past 24 hours: The Karachi police in their drive against criminals, arrested 31 alleged criminals in different areas during the past 24 hours. A police statement on Wednesday said that these included absconders and proclaimed offenders. It said that four police encounters also took place during the period in different areas of the metropolis.As a result of the police action, five gangs of alleged criminals were also busted, the police statement added.As many as 24, one Kalashnikov and three mobile phones were also recovered from the possession of those arrested. The police have registered the cases and have started investigations, it was further stated.IGP for concrete security steps at public places: The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, has directed that concrete security steps be taken for the public places as well as the industrial and commercial areas.He was chairing a meeting of senior police officers at the Central Police Office (CPO) here on Wednesday.On the occasion the IGP reviewed the overall performance of the police.He stressed that for curbing crimes, there should be an effective coordination and that in crimes-affected areas extra-ordinary measures be ensured.Two more dead in the city: A man was shot dead while others injure near Sagheer Centre in the precincts of Yousaf Plaza police station.DSP Saleem Akhtar Siddiqui said that the incident took place near Sagheer Centre Block 16 FB Area, where two men going on a bike from Rashid Minhas Road were attacked by armed men.Gulab Din 32 was shot and died on the spot while his companion Abdul Razzak was injured. The criminals escaped while the dead and injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by the police.Separately, the body of a young man was found from Kunwari Colony in the limits of Manghopir police station. The identity of the victim has yet to be ascertained. The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
