CHI - A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday called on the central leadership of Ahle Sunnat at Darul Uloom Naeemia in a bid to resolve its ongoing differences with Sunni Tehreek.
The four-member delegation included MQM Rabita Committee member Waseem Aftab, provincial ministers Raza Haroon, Abdul Haseeb and MPA Shoaib Ibrahim.
President Tanzeem-ul-Madaris Ahle Sunnat, Mufti Muneebur Rehman welcomed the delegation. JUP President Sahibzada Abul Khair Mohammad Zubair, Mufti Jameel Ahmed Naeemi, Mufti Athar Naeemi, Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Sialvi and Maulana Ghulam Dastagir Afghani were also present.
Later, talking to The Nation, JUP chief Sahibzada Abul Khair Mohammad Zubair said that separate meetings between the leaders the two parties proved successful and hoped that both would soon evolve a consensus to resolve mutual confrontation.
He said that MQM and ST both accepted Mufti Muneebur Rehman as a negotiator to resolve differences between the two parties. During the meeting, MQM leadership requested the Ahle Sunnat leadership to play its role for peace in the city.
Later, Sindh Minister Raza Haroon said that MQM was ready to go to extra miles to restore peace in the metropolis, adding that the meeting with top Ahle Sunnat leaders was part of the efforts to achieve this goal.
Haroon said that terrorists had killed dozens of MQM activists and office bearers during the last one and a half month.
"We have discussed lot of issues in the meeting including the menace of Talibanization in Karachi, law and order situation and other related problems", Haroon said.
ST central leader Shahid Ghauri said that ST delegation also met the Ahle Sunnat ulema late Wednesday night to brief them about the political victimisation of their party workers.
A press statement, issued by the MQM, stated that during the meeting both sides expressed their deep concern over the poor law and order situation in the metropolis. It said that direct negotiations would provide an opportunity to resolve all issues peacefully and foil conspiracies aimed at creating rifts between the two parties. Ahle Sunnat leaders assured the MQM delegation that they would fully support all efforts for peace in the metropolis.
