Dawood College to deploy Rangers for security

KARACHI - The Managing Committee of Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET), Karachi has decided to take strict security measures in and around the college and immediately suspend the admission of students involved in beating of senior teacher.

Pakistan Rangers and police will be approached for the deployment of its personnel at the campus. The Committee also decided to enhance campus security by recruiting security guards under the name of ‘Camp Security Guards’ which will work in coordination with police and rangers and bar entry of any person without valid ID card.
These decisions were taken in an official meeting of management committee presided over by Principal DCET Dr Muhammad Ali Sheikh, who is also the Vice Chancellor of Sindh Madresstul Islam University, to discuss the untoward incident occurred on Thursday in which a group of unruly students, belonging to a political faction, threw a chair on the Dean Faculty of Engineering Prof. Rashid Baig when he disallowed them to hold their program at the campus after college hours.
The committee noted that the deplorable acts frequently happening at DCET not only affect academic activities badly but also damage the institution’s prestige, especially in the press. The members said the parents of the students involved in the unfortunate incident must come in person and furnish the undertaking that their children would not repeat such undisciplined acts in the future.
It was also resolved that the Managing Committee shall hold proceedings to determine the level of involvement of students in the act of violence. “Those found guilty shall be rusticated for an appropriate period of time, “said the Committee.
The committee also decided that the administration block of DCET will be separated from the academic wing. It said academic activities will remain suspended for some days until security measures were adopted. All senior teachers in the college attended the meeting.
