KARACHI – The Sindh Excise and Taxation department has announced to launch campaign of nine days against motor tax defaulters across the province.In a statement, Excise & Taxation Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said that the campaign will be launched from September 24 to October 2 across the province. The purpose of this campaign is to collect motor vehicle tax. 13 teams in Karachi had been constituted for this purpose while in other parts of the province, these teams will work under district officers. He said that defaulter vehicles would not only be impounded but their owners would also be fined. These impounded vehicles would be released after payment of tax and fines.He said, “During July 2012 Rs 221 millions have more recovered as compared to July 2011 in various heads of the taxes. In July 2011, Rs 1730 millions were recovered while in July 2012, Rs 1952 millions were recovered.” He directed all the officials to perform their duties promptly in recovery campaign and he also requested to the people to pay all their due taxes to avoid any unpleasant situation. Shoaib Siddiqui added that Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla had given special directives to complete recovery campaign within time and collect the due tax in order to speed up development schemes in the province.
