KARA CHI - Ghulam Abbas Panju has grabbed a semifinal spot in the ongoing Askari Seed Tanking Tennis Championship on Saturday here at the PNS Karsaz synthetic courts. Ghulam Abbas attracted attention as 10-year-old player some years ago and has shown good improvement over the years and as a young man he made his great impact on local scene. He defeated Rehmat Ali Hasan, who after losing the first set 6-3 retired when the score was one all in the second set. Vinod Das moved into the last four defeating Nawab Muzaffar from Mirpurkhas 6-2,6-2. Zaid Soomar also found a place in the semi final when his opponent promising Basit Gabol could not appear for the match due to injury suffered earlier. Results of matches played on Saturday. Quarter-finals men's singles: Vinod Das beat Nawab Muzzafar (Mirpur Khas) 6-2, 6-2, Ghulam Abbas Panju beat Rehmat Ali Ahsan 6-3, 1-1 rtd, Zaid Noor Soomar w/o Basit Gabol (injured). Juniors under-17 singles quarter: Mustafa Zaidi w/o Daniyal Mirza, Adil Kohari beat Nameer Shamsi (3rd Seed) 6-3, 6-4, Omer Usman beat Uzair A Qadir 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Boys under-9 semi-finals: Jalaluddin Babar (Mirpur Khas) beat Umair Tariq 9-7, Suhail Fayyaz beat Muhammad dada 8-1. Boys & Girls under-11 singles quarters: Maheen Dada beat Marib Malik 8-6, Azhar A Qadir w/o Zarrar Khan, Adnan Allawala beat Umair Tariq 8-5, Sameer Farishta beat M Raza Sawani (2nd Seed) 8-5. Boys under-13 singles remaining pre-quarters: Marib Malik beat M Romman 8-4, Ammad Ali beat Aqeel Khan 8-3, Sanwal Memon beat Taha Bandeali 8-7, Shahbaz Fayyaz beat Saad Chawla 8-0, Saod Shoaib beat Sameer Farishta 8-1. Boys under-15 singles: Sanwal Memon beat Sheheryar Ahmed 6-0, 4-6, 7-6. Girls under-15 singles semi: Maheen Dada beat Iman Bari 8-0.
