KARACHI - The nationalists and other parties on Sunday set afoot plans to initiate a protest drive in the province that would continue until the withdrawal of the Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance 2012. In this respect, a meeting of the Save Sindh Committee – comprising the nationalist parties and other groups – on Sunday evolved a strategy to expedite their struggle against the ordinance.Hosted by the Sindh United Party at its chief Jalal Mehmood Shah’s residence, Haider Manzil, the meeting was attended by representatives of as many as sixteen parties, including Sindh Tarqi Passand Party chief Dr Qadir Magsi, Saleem Zia and Irfan Marwat of the PML-N, former Sindh Assembly deputy speaker and NPP leader Raheela Tiwana, JSQM vice-chairman Akasha Mallah, Jeay Sindh Tehreek head Dr Safdar Sarki, Jeay Sindh Mohaz chief Riaz Chandio, Jeay Sindh Qaumparsat Party leader Qamar Bhatti and Ali Hassan Chandio of the SNM.Talking to the media, SUP chief Jalal Shah said the meeting formulated a long-term strategy for anti-SPLGO protests. He said their drive would continue until the withdrawal of the ordinance.In the first phase, a hunger strike camp would be set-up outside the Press Club from September 21 (next Friday) that would continue until September 25, he added. In the second phase of the campaign, the SUP chief said, sit-ins would be staged on all the national highways connecting Sindh with other provinces.“Sit-ins would be staged and protest rallies taken out in each city and town of the province on September 30,” the nationalist leader said of the campaign.
