KARACHI - Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for Information Sharmila Faruqui has said that Sindh Government has taken emergency measures to cope up with expected rains and floods in the province and repair at LBOD has been completed while all breaches have also been filled and Rs 1500 million have been spent in this regard. This she said while addressing a seminar organised by an NGO on devastating floods in Sindh, as chief guest here at a local hotel, said a statement issued on Tuesday.She said that usually 127 millimeter rains was expected in Sindh and for current monsoon 155 millimeter to 200 millimeter rains were expected. Sindh government had taken comprehensive steps to face any natural disaster in Sindh she said added that, President Asif Ali Zardari is fully satisfied with the measures taken by provincial government.She said relief and rehabilitation ministries have also been established to redress the problems of the flood affected people.Sharmila said that certain embankments had been declared sensitive. Sindh Government took appropriate measures to rehabilitate flood affected people, she added. She said that women were provided vocational training so that they could provide support to their families. Flood affected farmers were given seeds, fertilizers and other facilities to them, she said.On this occasion, Sindh Minister for Women Development Touqeer Fatima Bhutto said that Sindh government was fully aware of the situation and ready to face any challenge. She said that Women Development Department was very active after floods and initiated many programs to empower women in the society. Dr Kaiser Bengali and others also spoke on the occasion.
