Mob attacks police station to get custody of blasphemer

KARACHI - Taimoria police station was attacked by a crowd that wanted custody of an accused in blasphemy case.A large number of people gathered outside the police station on Sunday urging them to handover the accused. Later the crowd tried to storm the police station, police had to resort to aerial firing and tear gas to control the crowd and disperse it. Rangers were called for assistance.Police had booked the accused for allegedly desecrating the ‘Holy Quran’ in North Nazimabad. They said the arrested, Saleem a resident of Block N-North Nazimabad, was booked under section 295-B (Defiling, etc, of Holy Quran) of PPC in FIR No. 308/2012 lodged on behalf of the State at Taimoria police station.The accused was arrested on complaint of people who witnessed the alleged desecration in the apartment building where the he lived, police said he was as a drug addict.
