Non-academic staff must be posted on admin positions

KARACHI - Sindh University Officers Federation has demanded that non academic staff should be posted on administrative positions in the public Universities in the province.“Non academic staff should be given representation in the syndicates of the public universities.” The leaders of the federation presented these demands in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Muhammad Nawaz Narejo at HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, Karachi University (KU), on Sunday.The meeting was attended by various representatives from KU, Sindh University, NED Engineering University, Mehran University, Sindh Agricultural University, Liaquat Medical University, Quaid-e-Awam University Nawab Shah and Federal Urdu University.Meanwhile, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) started construction work of alternate residential block for residents of dilapidated Bhagwandas Building on Saturday.The residential block with joint bathrooms and other facilities were being constructed on a piece of land at KMC Workshop which had been previously used for parking of Machinery Pool Vehicles of its B&R Division.The Metropolitan Commissioner, Matanat Ali Khan, on Saturday paid a visit to the construction site and inspected the ongoing work, a KMC statement said on Saturday. It said that he was accompanied by the concerned engineer and other officers. On this occasion, Matanat Ali Khan said that the Bhagwandas Building in Narinpura had been declared as dangerous, therefore it was decided to relocate the families residing in its over 63 apartments as a makeshift arrangement. These people would again shift to their original home after the reconstruction of Bhagwandas Building. He said that the work had been started under the special directive of Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed so that it is complete before the start of next monsoon rains in the city. The Metropolitan Commissioner said that the land for construction of alternate residential block for residents of Bhagwandas Building had been finalised. with the collaboration of DMC South which also gave some of its land for the block. The shifting of families will be completed in next one and a half month’s time.He said that a committee comprising the concerned officers of KMC and the representatives of residents of Bhagwandas Building was overseeing the whole work with  a view to ensure availability of all necessary facilities to these people on the new place including the supply of water, electricity, gas and sewerage system.
