13 more die as police fail to rein in killers

KARACHI – It is become evident with each passing day that the law enforcement agencies have completely failed to maintain law and order in the City as 11 more people were killed here on Wednesday in various localities.The violent incidents became a matter of routine in the commercial hub with killing of dozen lives daily. A policeman was killed within the remits of Pak Colony Police Station. Sohail, 40, who had participated in Karachi Operation in 1990s, was gunned down and his associate cop identified as Shafqat Gondal was wounded when unidentified armed motorcyclists targeted them near Bismillah Hotel at Main Manghopir Road.Police said that both the victims were on their intelligence duty in the area when the incident took place.Deceased Sohail was the resident of Metroville area while the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained. The deceased and injured were taken to the Civil Hospital. In another act of target killing, a worker of Sunni Tehreek identified as 36-year-old Tahir was gunned down near Nala Stop within the limits of New Karachi police station. Police said that at least two armed motorcyclists first chased the victim and later escaped after shooting him. He was shot twice in his head and died on the spot. DSP Muhammad Akhtar said that the deceased was the resident of same area and belonged to Godhra community. Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area while Rangers and police rushed to the spot to avoid any untoward incident. Meanwhile, a man associated with the Pakistan Customs identified as Akbar Ali, 30, was gunned down in an act of target killing within Sharifabad police remits. Police officials said that the deceased was shot once in his head.He was passing through Liaquatabad when unidentified armed men shot him dead. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later handed over to his family. An employee of the Karachi Port Trust was found dead near railway track within the jurisdiction of Sharafi Goth police station. A 40-year-old Saleem Khan was the resident of Usmanabad area of Old City and went missing for the last two days. Police officials said that the unidentified culprits first kidnapped him and later dumped his body after shooting him once in his head. His body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy.  In another incident, 27-year-old Ehtishamul Haq, son of Abdul Majeed was gunned down when he was standing outside his home located in Sector 4-D within the limits of Surjani police station.He was shot multiple times and died on the spot. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. SHO Shabbir Hussain said that the deceased was a factory worker and had no affiliation with any party while the motive behind his killing has yet to be ascertained. A buyer namely Kashif, 30, was killed and two shopkeepers namely Khurram and Tauseef injured when at least two unidentified armed men opened fire at a bakery in Orangi Town within the limits of Mominabad police station. SHO Nasir Mehmood said that the shop owner had affiliation with Pakistan Peoples Party which might be the cause behind the attack but customer Kashif, standing in the shop, was killed. The deceased and injured were taken to the Civil Hospital. The officer said that the motive behind the incident was yet to be ascertained. A body of a young man was found from Mureed Goth. Police officials said that the deceased was killed after kidnapping, adding that he was tortured to death while his throat was chopped off. The body of the victim was shifted to the morgue after autopsy for identification.Separately, 30-year-old Arsalan was gunned down in D-1 Area within Khokhrapar police remits. Police officials said that the deceased was a criminal and had also been involved in the several cases of crime including a murder of Rangers personnel while further investigation was underway. An alleged member of the Lyari gangster group who was later identified as Enayat Baloch, 38, was gunned down in Baloch Para within Super Market police remits. Police officials said that the deceased was the resident of Ilyas Goth and his brother had also been killed in the same manner.  A 40-year-old Yawar Mehdi was gunned down in an act of target killing near Gol Market within Nazimabad police remits. Police officials said that the deceased had his private business and had dispute with some constructive contractors in the area. Further investigation was underway. Meanwhile, a body of a young man was found from Ranchore Lane within the limits of Risala police station. The body was moved to morgue, Sohrab Goth for identification after autopsy at CHK. Police officials said that the deceased was shot in his head. Meanwhile, a man was sitting outside his home shot dead in Baldia Town within the remits of Saeedabad police station. Police said Muhammad Fazal, 50, was sitting outside his home where gunmen came and shot him twice. Culprits managed to flee while the victim died on the way to Civil Hospital. In another incident of target killing, another young man was shot dead here in the remits of Khokharapar police station. Police said Abdul Qadir, 22, was on his way to home from his workplace when unidentified motorcyclists chased him and shot him dead. The deceased received multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. Police have yet to ascertain the motive behind both the murders.
