Hike in bus fares goes unchecked

KARACHI – Like the traders of fruits and vegetables, the transport mafia has also taken full advantage of outsiders’ sentiments who have left for their native homes to celebrate Eid with their dear ones, by charging unjustified extra fares.

A large number of people went to their native towns and transporters take fully benefit of this situation. All the bus terminals were over crowded with passengers till the last day of Ramazan.
Some passengers at the bus stands were of the view that the provincial government was responsible for this problem of the citizens as the transporters were undirected and uncontrolled by the authorities concerned. The transporters felt they had absolute power to do as per their desire.
Passengers said the poor condition of railway department was another cause behind the arrogance of transporters in the city and other parts of the country as well. Very few trains are serving but these trains are normally four or five hours late from their schedule time.
The first Eid special has already left Karachi for Peshawar on August 16 while another Eid special train operated from Karachi to Rawalpindi via Faisalabad on August 17. These trains were late from their scheduled time, they said.
