Lone Pakistani film to ‘grace’ cinemas

KARACHI - Pakistani film industry has failed to present any new film on the occasion of Eidul Fitr and mostly cinemas in Karachi have announced to show the Hollywood and Indian movies.

Local cinemas are launching four new films during Eid days including The Dark Knight Rises, The Watch, The Expendables 2 and Total Recall. Usually the families, especially youth was enthusiastic to be a part of these inaugural shows.
Start of 3D shows in the city also gives boost to the industry which was declined from the last decade. Ultimately the upbringing of the cinema culture in the city could not support the local cinema and Pakistani film industry. To facilitate each class of the society, the cinemas located in distant areas of the city mostly present the Punjabi and Pashto films including Oden, Goadean, Nusreen, Lalazar, Nishat and Capri cinemas. They starts their special shows during Eid days after a long break of Ramazan.  As per details, Pakistan cinema will not produce any new film on this festival and the news of cancellation of Indian film ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ has badly hurt the cinema-goers who had no new choice for watching at this festival. With the release of only one new film, a low-key Eid is expected for Pakistani films this year. Syed Noor’s Shareeka is the only major production being released by the Lollywood, while the much-talked Indian film Ek Tha Tiger starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif is plunged in uncertainty as prospects of censorship float. The Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer was hit by Pakistan’s security agencies and was banned for public screening in Pakistan.
According to the media reports Katrina Kaif plays the character of Zoya in the movie, a scientist’s part-time home caretaker who is actually a Pakistani spy. Salman plays a RAW agent named Tiger, who later fell in love with Zoya.
