Thar declared ‘calamity-hit’

KARACHI - The Sindh government has declared the drought and disease-affected district of Thar a calamity-hit area.

According to Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, the chief minister has officially declared the district a disaster area. He said that the decision was taken after drought and different diseases which killed hundreds of birds and animals in the district.
Memon said that the district was facing shortage of drinking water, foods and other basic needs. He added that the government was taking all the measures to help the people of the area and to save the animals in the region.
