Nationalists to subdue ‘Mohajir’ province voice

KARACHI – The nationalist parties on Saturday plainly said the demands for the creation of a “Mohajir” province had no basis whatsoever, claiming that the Urdu-speaking people were enjoying their rights.

Branding such demands as a “conspiracy” to bifurcate the province, the nationalists demanded the PPP-led government to quell this treacherous rebellion and expose those behind it. They also announced a protest demonstration on May 28 against the attempts to carve out a new province.
Addressing a news conference at the Karachi Press Club, the nationalists also called on the Sindh Home Department and Federal Interior Ministry to remove the graffiti and posters pasted in various city neighbourhoods in support of the creation of “Muhajir” province. According to the nationalists, a certain ethnic group was behind the wall-chalking. “Such posters can be seen in MQM-dominated areas,” they said, “So, everyone believe that the very party is behind the conspiracy”.
“The conspiracy to divide Sindh will lead to ethnic riots and a civil war,” they warned, and affirmed that the people would not let anyone to divide Sindh.
They also came down hard on certain media outlets, saying they were highlighting the issue without an in-depth understanding of the ground realities.
The news conference was addressed by Ali Hassan Chandio of the Sindh National Movement, Amir Bhanbhro of the Sindh National Party, Habib Jatoi of the Jeay Sindh Tehreek, Inayat Khatian of the Sindh United Party, Hareef Chandio of the Awami Jamhoori Party, Mazhar Rahojo of the Awami Tehreek, Elahi Bux of the JSQM, Mumtaz Birohi of the Jeay Sindh Mohaz, Ali Sher Jatoi of the Sindh Dost Democratic Party and Syed Yousaf Shah of the Karachi Sindhi Shehri Ittehad.
