KARACHI - Four MQM workers among 15 people were gunned down in separate incidents of target killing here on Wednesday.
Police officials said that victim Ghulam Sarwar, 35, unit in-charge of MQM, MOC wing was standing outside his home with his friend Abdul Ghani, 32, when two armed motorcyclists sprayed bullets on them.
Resultantly, victims received multiple bullet injuries. Later, both of them were shifted to hospital where they succumbed to injuries.
The bodies were handed over to their families after completing medicolegal formalities at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). No case was registered till the filing of this report. Another MQM worker was killed while his sister wounded in Block-S, North Naizmabad within the remits of Sharah-e-Noorjahan police station.
Police officials said that victim Waheed Yaqoob, 30, resident of the same area, was at home when some unidentified culprits barged into the house and started indiscriminate firing. Resultantly, the victim received multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot while his sister Amna wounded. Police rushed to the spot and shifted both to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem and medical treatment.
Another MQM worker was shot dead in the limits of PIB colony police station. Police said the deceased was sitting at the general store where unknown motorcyclists came and shot him twice. The victim Umair Hussain, 30, died on the spot. Following the killing of MQM workers, tension prevailed in the areas.
Meanwhile, a man killed during an exchange of fire took place between the rival groups within the remit of Garden police station. Police said both the ethnic rival groups were collided and resorted to indiscriminate firing in each other areas. Following the indiscriminate firing, a passerby Irfan Ismail sustained bullet injuries and died on the spot while two others including Ikhlas and Ilyas were also wounded and later shifted to the hospital.
In the remits of Chakiwara police station some unknown assailants took two abducted persons at Mirza Adam Khan Road and shot them several times. Both the victims including Jamil Baloch and Atique Latif sustained multiple bullet injuries who were rushed to the Civil Hospital where Jamil succumbed to injuries while Latif was admitted with critical wounds. In another incident, a cop posted in Balochistan was shot dead at Northern Bypass within the remits of Maripur police station.
Police said deceased police inspector namely Malik Mazhar Iqbal was on his way to Karachi on a motorbike when gunmen targeted him and managed to flee. Police shifted the body to Civil hospital and later handed over to the family after autopsy while unable to ascertain the motive behind the murder. In the similar police remits, some unknown gunmen resorted to firing at Dabu Club which left a man dead and three others wounded. Police said that the victims, including Bahadur Hussain 30, Faisal Mujeeb, 28, Jahangir Khan and Sahib Khan were injured and shifted to JPMC where Bahadur died during the treatment. The body was handed over to his family after completing medico-legal formalities.
Meanwhile, a man was killed near Millat Garden within the remits of Saudabad police station. Police officials said victim Salman Baloch, 27, resident of Malir Sahibdad Goth, was kidnapped near his home by unidentified culprits near Malir halt. Culprits threw his shot dead body at the said place after two hours. Police after being informed shifted the body at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem and later handed over to his family. Separately, a disabled man was killed in an incident of target killing in Ramswami area within the remits of Nabi Baksh police station. Some unknown gunmen resorted to firing which left an unknown bystander wounded. The victim died on the way to hospital while his body has been shifted to the morgue for identification after autopsy.
An ex-cop was gunned down in Agra Taj Colony within the limits of Kalri police station. Police officials said that victim Ghulam Sarwar alias Jumman was standing outside his home when unidentified assailants came close to him and started indiscriminate firing. Resultantly he received multiple bullets injuries and died on the spot. Police said that Lyari gangsters were involved in the murder.
A man was killed at Dalmia Road within the remits of Aziz Bhatti police station. Police officials said that the victim identified as Obaid Jan Baloch, 30, resident of Dalmia, was going somewhere when some unidentified assailants targeted him. Resultantly, the victim received multiple bullets injuries and died on the way to hospital. The body was shifted to JPMC for autopsy and later handed over to heirs. Police said that the victim was affiliated with drug peddlers. A man was shot dead in Bangla Bazaar, Orangi Town within the limits of Pakistan Bazaar police station.
Police officials said that victim Ikram Ashraf, 25, was standing outside his home when a stray bullet hit him. The deceased sustained a bullet in his head and died on the spot. Police rushed to the scene and shifted the body to hospital for medicolegal formalities and later handed over to his family.
A shot dead body of eunuch was found from the house located in the remits of Chakiwara police station. Police said that unknown assailants barged into house and shot the victim. Police shifted the body to morgue after autopsy at Civil Hospital.
Meanwhile, a man was killed in Pipri Goth within the remits of Bin-Qasim police station. Police said that the victim Wazeer Khan, 50, resident of Pipri Goth, was going somewhere when unidentified assailants shot him multiple times. Resultantly the victim received multiple bullet injuries and died on the way to hospital. Police rushed on the spot and shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and later handed over to his heirs. Police suspect that the motive behind the murder was personal enmity.
