Federal budget has constitutional status: FBR

Mumtaz Haider Rizvi, Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), setting aside the doubts being cast over the constitutional status of federal budget 2012-13 said the budget was constitutionally approved.

Addressing a post budget seminar organized by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday, he said, “The National Assembly has passed the money bill. The prime minister has been declared disqualified but the national assembly is not dissolved.”
Lauding the federal budget, the FBR chief said complete relief has been offered to common man in the new budget as no new tax was levied.
The resolution of refund complaints, Rizvi noted, lies in automation, adding the system has become centralized and this is going to be online soon.
The Supreme Court in its historic verdict on Tuesday said that Yousuf Raza Gilani was no more Prime Minister since April 26, this decision has created a constitutional vacuum in the country as former prime minister and his cabinet decision have been considered illegal.
