KARACHI - The police during the past six months busted 483 gangs of dacoits, arrested 5,132 accused including 945 absconders and 104 proclaimed offenders.

A spokesman of the police said that the period spans from January 1, 2012 up to July 19, 2012.
He said that during the period a total of 631 encounters with police took place and 54 dacoits were killed. According to Karachi police report 49 SMGs, five shotguns, 65 rifles, 93 repeaters, 3,541 pistols, 85 revolvers, seven carbines, 24 mousers, two RPGs, 171 hand grenades, 61 mortars, 129 daggers and 960 mobile phones were recovered from the possession of the accused during the past six months.
