KARACHI - A meeting of the elite-class private schools, following the Cambridge system, has urged the provincial government to declare its recent decision to observe summer vacations from July to August in the whole province optional for this year, and allow them to observe summer vacations from June to July.The meeting was held on Monday at the Concern Private Schools (CPS), and chaired by Jameel Yousuf, a member of CPS. The meeting was well attended by representatives of City Schools, Beacon House, and other schools following A’ and O’ level system. Jameel Yousuf, a member of CPS, told The Nation that the government should have given significant time to private schools before taking this important decision, he said, adding that the decision has created problems not only for schools organisations but also for students and their parents. Talking to media, Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq said that the decision to observe summer vacations from July to August in the whole province was taken due to Ramzan and monsoon seasons, starting from July.He said that flood situation in the interior, which caused many examination boards to keep rescheduling dates for the papers was the main reason for the change. While taking this decision all private schools were on board; some private schools opposed the decision. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah recently approved the summery of the summer vacations for 2012. As per the summery, the summer vacations in the province would start from July 1, and end on August 31. Representatives of some privates schools, including Haider Ali, President of Peak Private Schools Management Association Sindh, and Sharfuz Zaman, President Private Schools Management Association (PSMA), have praised the provincial govt’s decision to observe summer vacations in July and August in the province, and said that the government’s decision is really a voice of the people of Sindh and Karachi as well.On the other hand, an official of Sindh Education Department has said that the department would implement the decision strictly in the province, as the department has already announced the schedule for summer vacation from July 1 to August 31.
