KU three-day international workshop tomorrow

KARACHI – The Karachi University’s National Nematological Research Centre along with the Pakistan Society of Nematologists is organising 12th international workshop on “Biological Control of Root-Knot Nematodes in Vegetables Using EPN” from May 24 to 26. The three-day workshop is sponsored by the Pakistan Science Foundation. The workshop is being arranged in relation to the collaborative research programme with China in advance molecular technology. Eminent Scientists and research scholars from China will participate in the workshop to share the institutional research facilities concerning the molecular techniques of entomopathogenis nematodes, its mass production, formulation and commercialisation.  KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Qaiser will be the chief guest. Dr Manzoor Hussain Soomro, Pakistan Society of Nematologists (PSN) President and Pakistan Science Foundation Chairman will preside over. NNRC Director Dr Shahina Fayyaz will deliver the welcome address. Other speakers include NNRC ex-director Dr Maqbool and Prof Dr Richou Han.Meanwhile,  “t­wo day weekly holiday notification will be applicable from second semester which is commencing from July 15, 2012”, the said decision was taken in a recent meeting of the Academic Council of University of Karachi, held on May 22, 2012 under the chair of KU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser. The draft of Plagiarism Policy was accepted in principle; however, a committee has been formulated for necessary amendments and improvement. The committee, constituted under the convener ship of Prof. Dr. Abuzar Wajidi, comprises of deans of all faculties and a few professors from the faculty of Arts and Science.Members of the Academic Council (AC) unanimously approved the amendments for update in course/syllabi of a few departments of the faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences, Arts and Science. The VC expressed his gratitude on the fact that the administration is able to conduct regular meetings of University’s statuary bodies. The next meeting of AC is likely to be held in the mid of August, informed Dr. Qaiser. Moreover, all the decisions taken by the VC related to University’s affiliated bodies/colleges were accepted and approved by the Academic Council.
