 IGP again put up ‘high alert’ for Eid


KARACHI  - The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari, at a meeting here on Thursday reviewed the contingency plan for Eidul Azha.A police statement here said that according to the plan the central control room has been established at the office of the Additional IG Karachi.It said that Leghari has directed the police to remain on high alert and the security measures be beefed up from Friday morning. He also instructed that police picketing, snap checking and patrolling by police personnel on motorcycles be made effective. The IGP stressed that there be proper vigilance on the security deployment.He directed that an eye be kept on the miscreants and that there be police picketing on the entry and exit points of the city. It was pointed out that some 20,000 security personnel would perform the security duty.The deployment of plain-clothed security personnel at public places as well as inside and around places of worship are being ensured in addition to deployment at Eidgahs, mosques, Imambargahs, shopping centres and other places. The IGP directed that foolproof arrangements be made for the protection of lives and property of the people. He also called for steps in accordance with the code of conduct regarding the collection, distribution and transfer of the hides of the sacrificial animals.   MQM ACTIVIST AMONG TWO KILLED: Meanwhile, an activist of MQM among two people was gunned down in separate acts of violence in various part of the City on Thursday.A worker of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) was gunned down at Rashid Minhas Road in Jauharabad police precincts.Police said that the victim namely Kamran Laique, 35, was going somewhere on motorbike, when two armed motorcyclists intercepted them and sprayed bullets. Resultantly, he succumbed to injuries on the way to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The body was handed over to his family after autopsy. The deceased was working in Water Board. Police suspected that current spell of political target killing was the motive behind the killing. A body of a man was found from Crown Cinema, Maripur Road within the jurisdiction of Kalri police station.Police said that the identification of the victim was yet to be ascertained. Police said unidentified culprits kidnapped the victim from somewhere and shot him dead. Police moved the body to morgue for identification after completing postmortem at Civil Hospital Karachi. Police believed that the victim belonged to Katchi Memon community.
