KARACHI - As Eidul Azha is going to be celebrated tomorrow (Saturday) but majority of the government employees have already left for their native towns, leaving the Sindh Secretariat deserted.However, during the visit of the Sindh Secretariat, which hosts over 0.2 million government employees of the provincial departments, majority of them hailed from other parts of the province and left the city almost two days ago from October 24 on Wednesday.During visit of the Sindh Secretariat on last working day on Thursday, the offices were giving deserted look as government employees left for their home towns/villages.The Sindh government had declared Eid holidays from October 26 to 29, the government employees started holidays on their own from October 25.A government employee from lower staff on condition of anonymity that his name not to be mentioned in the story told The Nation almost 80 per cent employees left the offices much before the official Eid holidays as it has been practice to come office only show attendance.He opined that during Eidul Azha, the officers and lower staff come and spend time only their attendance, so that he\she gets salary on time.It may be noted that Eidul Fitr and Eidul Azha are tow religious festivals every year when a large number of government employees leave the city to celebrate the Eids with their families in home towns. Majority of the people who left Karachi are government employees, daily wagers, vendors, labourers, workers in hotels, restaurants and other professionals.The major reason to leave the city early for their home towns is hike in fares of public transport as well as rush on Eid days, so the people prefer to leave the City two or three days before the Eid.It may be noted that the due to rush on public transport, most of the government employees extend their holidays for two or three more days in the home districts. The government employees said that the travel on train or bus take about 10 to 12 hours to reach in their destiny in Larkana or Sukkur, but it take more hours to reach in Jacobabad, bordering district of the province with Balochistan. Most of the employees enjoy Eid holiday for about one week in their native areas as they go once or twice on Eid celebrations.
