KARACHI - Despite strong opposition from the PPP, President Asif Ali Zardari will likely to allot the portfolio of provincial home department to MQM, an ally of the PPP government especially of the President.
The insiders said that the MQM had put condition of the portfolio of Sindh Home Ministry in the negotiations held between the two parties to support the ruling PPP’s nominee Raja Pervez Ashraf as Prime Minister of Pakistan, which has been accepted by President Zardari.
Following the creation of post of Deputy Prime Minister for PML-Q’s Pervez Elahi, it is seemed that President Zardari has accepted the demand of MQM to allot them the portfolio of provincial home department.
In the wake of deteriorating law and order and targeted killings in Karachi, President Zardari, in an effort to maintain peace in the City, has principally agreed to give the home ministry to MQM as task to secure the lives of Karachiites.
It may be noted that after differences and harsh attitude of former Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza against MQM, the portfolio of home ministry was allotted to Manzoor Wassan, who was later removed from the job after operation in Lyari.
Presently, the portfolio of home ministry holds by the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
