KARACHI - Following the deadly assault on a rally of the nationalist parties in the city this week, a team of MNAs from the ruling PPP has rolled up its sleeves to evolve a strategy to calm down the wrath of the nationalist leaders over the controversial demand for a separate province for the Muhajir community.
Earlier, MNA Maula Bux Chandio told TheNation that a meeting was being organised at Makhdoom Amin Fahim’s residence in Karachi to discuss the agenda ahead of making a contact with the nationalists.
He said the sentiments of PPP workers and Sindhi nationalists for the Sindh province were same. “We will soon hold a meeting with the nationalist leaders for creating a peaceful political atmosphere.”
Sources said the PPP ministers would assure the nationals of steps against those behind the wall-chalking and graffiti for the “Mohajir” province creation demand.
Meanwhile, the Sindh United Party chief said the PPP had not yet contacted them.
Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, however, confirmed that a meeting was going to be held.
He held the PPP, MQM and PML-Q responsible for the voice for the creation of new provinces which, according to him, was a conspiracy to divide Sindh, saying a peaceful rally got attacked but those raising slogans for the province’s division were free to hold protests even in the Red Zone.
Jalal Shah said that his party was going to call a multi-party conference to discuss the post-attack scenario.
The Awami Tehreek president meanwhile demanded the PPP government to apologise the heirs of his party workers, who were martyred in the attack on the rally.
Ayaz Latif Palijo also said he was ready to hold a meeting with PPP leaders.
Political analysts are of the view that the people are not happy with the silence of the ruling party over the campaign for a separate province.
