Parties sit-in outside EC office continues

KARACHI - The sit-in called by leaders of different political and religious parties belonging to opposition continued for the second day outside the Provincial Election Commission (PEC) Office on Sunday. The three-day sit-in was announced by the opposition parties for the acceptance of their demand regarding the verification of the electoral rolls. According to details, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Naib Ameer Asadullah Bhutto, JI Sindh chief Mairajul Huda, JI Karachi chief Muhammad Hussain Mahenti, Saleem Zia of the PML-N, Saifur Rehman of the PTI, JI Karachi Naib Ameer Barjees Ahmed, JI leader Naseem Siddiqui, Maulana Muhammad Ghayyas of the JUI-F, Mustaqeem Noorani of the JUP, Matloob Awan of the ST, Mazhar Rahoja of the Awami Tehreek, Gulzar Soomro of the STPP, Maulana Ghulam Mustafa Farooqui of the JUI-S, Sikandar Khan Yousufzai of the PAMP, Ghulam Qambar Ali of the AJP and others participated in the sit-in. Speaking on occasion, Mairajul Huda said that the murderers were hiding behind the fake voters' lists adding the extortionists and target killers were taking part by disguising themselves as EC staffers during voters' verification. "The said sit-in and struggle will be the first step towards the elimination of extortionists and target killers of the city", he added. He further said if the SC verdict in case of voters’ verification process was not being implemented, then the leaders of political and religious parties will make and announce their strategy in near future. "We will not accept any ‘Thapa mafia and its mandate", he added. He said the sit-in will extend to Islamabad and Parliament House, adding those who make the city hostage will not succeed in their nefarious designs. Ameer JI Karachi Muhammad Hussain Mahenti said all parties are united against Thapa mafia, extortionists and target killers. He said the EC is being held hostage by MQM, adding the SC decision was not being implemented, however; the decisions of MQM are being implemented."The aim of our sit-in is to foster awareness among the citizens of the city regarding the pre-poll rigging in form of ongoing voters' verification", he added. On the occasion, Mahenti appealed the people to participate in the sit-in today (Monday) in large numbers.  Speaking on the occasion, Saleem Zia said that the city has been made a slaughter house for last five years in the tenure of the government of PPP and its coalition partners. He requested the CEC Fakruddin G Ibrahim that not to feel pressure if any party and carryon work by remaining his previous honesty and prestige in mind. Chairman Sindh United Party (SUP) Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, Maulana Muhammad Ghayyas, Mustaqeem Noorani, Matloob Awan, Mazhar Rahoja, Gulzar Soomro, Maulana Ghulam Mustafa Farooqui, Sikandar Khan Yousufzai and others  also spoke on the occasion.
