KARACHI  - The financial matters pertaining to the public sector universities in Sindh should be determined keeping in view the prevailing situation of the Higher Education Commission and in the light of the resources available to the provinces after the 18th amendment.This was directed by the Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, who is also the Chancellor of the public sector universities in the province. He was chairing a high level meeting at the Governor’s House here on Wednesday.The vice-chancellors of the public sector universities in the province and the directors of degree awarding institutions, Advisor to Governor, Dr Naushad Shaikh, Advisor Higher Education, Aftab Lodhi, also attended the meeting.Dr Ishratul Ebad assured every possible assistance to the universities. He asked the vice-chancellors to submit to provincial government the financial plan of their respective universities so that there be no impediment in teaching, research and other activities because of non-availability of funds.Matter pertaining to residential facilities for the employees of the universities also came up for consideration at the meeting.The governor directed that it must be ensured that the land for the purpose is acquired at the earliest from the Board of Revenue.He also called for a master plan for the utilisation of such lands and keeping them safe from encroachment. The meeting made it clear that universities’ land cannot be utilised for any other purpose.GOVERNOR CONDOLES DEMISE OF JOURNALIST’S MOTHERSindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan condoled the demise of mother of senior journalist, Nasar Iqbal. In a condolence message, he expressed sorrow and grief at the passing away of mother of Nasar Iqbal.He prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.Mother of Nasar Iqbal died here on Monday after cardiac arrest and other complications, and was laid to rest at Sakhi Hasan Graveyard, family sources said. Her Namaz-e-Janaza was offered at Masjid Bait-ul-Mukkaram after Asr prayers. She was 68.Meanwhile, Member National Assembly Sheikh Salahuddin has directed the officials concerned to make preparations to immediately respond to any eventuality during the expected rain. The MNA was chairing a meeting with the officials of district Central’s New Karachi Zone here on Wednesday.The meeting was informed that besides special rain emergency centers, rescue centers in all zones have been set up by the administration district Central.It was also informed that all concerned departments have also developed coordination to cope with situation during monsoon shower.Administrator District Central, Muhammad Nazir Lakhani and other officials concerned were also present.PPP MEDIA CELL TO CELEBRATE BB’S BIRTH ANNIVERSARYPPP Sindh Media Cell will celebrate the birth anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto at 4 pm on June 28, at Media Cell, D-16, block no 3, Clifton here.Quran Khawani and fateha will be organised in connection with the birth anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, said a statement issued here on Wednesday.
