KARACHI - Provincial Election Commission will formally announce the vacant provincial seat of ruling PPP’s MPA Shazia Marri after her oath as member of National Assembly. However, it is likely that the vacant seat of Shazia Marri will be filled Saira Shahliani as her name was in the list of PPP’s women candidates after Shazia Marri, who is now a member of the National Assembly after the death of MNA Fauzia Wahab. When contacted, Provincial Election Commissioner Sono Khan Baloch told TheNation that election commission will announce the provincial assembly seat as vacant after the oath of Shazia Marri as the National Assembly member.According to the rules of election commission, though the name of Ms Saira Shahliani is on the turn to replace Shazia Marri, who is now member National Assembly, but if Shahliani show her willingness of not becoming a member of the Sindh Assembly, the election commission can nominate another woman on the vacant seat as MPA. It may be noted here that Saira Shahliani is the daughter of MPA Ghulam Muhammad Shahliani, who was elected as Sindh assembly member in the elections of 2008. However, Saira Shahliani was the member of Sindh Assembly from the period of 2002-2007 on the women’s reserved seats by the PPP. It is likely that the ruling PPP leadership will ask the Saira Shahliani to give her assent in writing if she is not willing to become a member of the Sindh Assembly because her father is also serving as MPA in current assembly. The PPP leadership may nominate another woman who had filed the nomination papers on the seat of Shazia Marri as the member Sindh Assembly.
