Two jails’ suprintendents gunned down

KARACHI - Two superintendents of jails were gunned down in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area on Saturday.

Central Jail Assistant Superintendent Jail Pir Masood Jan Sarhandi, son of Pir Mushtaq, and Superintendent Malir Jail, namely Abdul Razzak Abbasi, son of Abdul Latif, were gunned down on late Saturday night.
The incident took place near NIPA Chowrangi within the jurisdiction of Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station. Police officials said that unidentified armed motorcyclists sprayed bullets on the victims’ Suzuki Cultus car (AKY-718) when they were on their way near Nipa Chowrangi towards Safora Chowrangi in their car. Both the victims had been died at the spot. Their bodies were first taken to the Patel Hospital in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and later moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medicolegal formalities where jail police officials also reached. Deceased Pir Masood Jan Sarhandi was also the nephew of the former Central Jail Superintendent Shabbir Jan Sarhandi.
Meanwhile, a man who was found dead two days ago was identified as the official of the Sindh local government on Saturday. Ghulam Asghar, 50, was found dead from an empty plot in Defence Phase-V on Thursday. His body was later moved to Edhi morgue for identification after medicolegal formalities completed at the JPMC. Police officials said that the deceased was the resident of the same area and was the grade-19 officer at the Sindh Local Government, adding that his eldest brother Akbar Wadan is the Khairpur police headquarters SP.  They said that the deceased was killed over monetary dispute and police traced his friend, who was involved in the murder, and called the victim at an abandoned place and later shot him dead.
