KARACHI – Four more people, including a political activist and a policeman, fell prey to the scourge of targeted killings in the metropolis, while enraged residents of Orangi Town attacked a police post after the killing of a political worker on Monday. Tension simmered in Orangi Town after an activist affiliated with the Awami National Party (ANP) was killed by the firing of a police constable during a demonstration at Mohammad Pur police post. The victim was identified as Saddam. Police officials said Ikhlaq, a gunman of a Chief Minister’s House official, Syed Hussain Shah Bukhari, resorted to firing when Saddam and other ANP workers tried to snatch his pistol. As a result, Saddam received a critical gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Later, a group of unidentified gunmen ransacked the house of the policeman. District West SSP Amir Farooqi said the protesters were backed by the ANP. Further investigation is in progress. Separately, a policeman, namely Sikandar, 46, son of Mir Hussain, was gunned down near his home in Metroville area within the remit of the SITE-A Section Police Station. According to police officials, the victim was going to a mosque to offer prayers when two unidentified armed men, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on him. The inured policeman was ferried to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him as brought dead. In another attack, a young man, identified as Omar Kareem, son of Fahim, was mowed down while one Akbar was injured, when unidentified attackers, riding on a motorbike, sprayed them with bullets near Landhi 89 within the jurisdiction of the Quaidabad Police Station. Police officials said that both the men, labourers by profession, were busy in buying foods at a market when the armed men targeted them. Separately, an unidentified young man was shot dead within the precincts of the Airport Police Station. According to police officials, the man was running to save his life from over two dozen people in Pehlwan Goth. When he reached near Airport area, the chasers opened fire on him, killing him over unknown reasons. Further investigation is in progress. The victim’s body was moved to a morgue for identification after medico-legal formalities at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
