KARACHI - Cracks appeared within the Sindh government when Agha Sindh Local Bodies Minister and President Zardari’s close aide Siraj Durrani out rightly rejected a notification issued by the provincial government.
“The commissioner Karachi has misled the chief minister vis-à-vis issuance of this summary”, Durrani charged, adding that “Now, I will not talk to chief minister on this issue, but will approach the president directly”, he maintained.
The Sindh government had issued a notification on Wednesday last directing the commissioner Karachi Roshan Ali Sheikh and deputy commissioners of district west, district east, district central, district south and district Malir to assume additional charge of the KMC and five municipal corporations.
However, the commissioner and the deputy commissioners did not assume the charge till the filing of this report due to opposition from Durrani.
Symposium of JPMC: The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) will hold its 49th Annual Medical Symposium from April 1 to 5, Prof Jamal Ara, chairperson of the Academic Council and Symposium Organizing Committee of the hospital, said a statement issued here Friday. The symposium is being organised with the theme “Every Life Counts”, which implies that no person can ever experience all that life has to offer.
Further elaborating the choice for the theme, Ara said it is only through sharing experiences, feelings and insights that we can hope to grow beyond our finite lifetime. “The idea is to invigorate all stakeholders and make them think if they are ready to grow today,” she said.
Ara said the JPMC is the pioneer medical institute of the country that has been organising its annual medical symposium since 1963.It is our endeavour to continue the academic and research activity and keep the torch alight and kick off the forthcoming moot by holding a plenary session after the inauguration, she added.
