City to face water shortage for 24 hours

KARACHI - The water supply to the City was suspended for next 24 hours after the main 72-inch diameter pipeline busted near Dhabeji pumping station due to bad condition of the line.

According to Chief Engineer of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Iftikhar, the 72-inch diameter water pipeline is quite old and it was laid in 1972.
He said that the Dhabeji pumping station was routinely supplied 595 million gallons of water through to 10 pipelines of 72-inch diameter daily to Karachi, 5 million gallons water spread in the nearby fields due to bursting of pipeline,” he added.
He said the repair work is under way and would hopefully be completed within the next 16 hours.
He also informed that no one area can suffered the shortage of water because the KW&SB technicians were diverted the supply through other 9 distributing pipelines to Karachi.  
Sources informed that the pipeline burst at around 10:30 am on Wednesday morning due to negligence of KW&SB employees, who were deployed at the Dhabeji water pumping Station to manage the supply of water.
Sources said that various parts of the city are suffered the shortage of water because blow up the line, citizens would face shortage of water as the main source of water supply would remain closed till the pipeline repair in 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the CM has directed the MD of Karachi Water Board for immediate repair of affected portion of water supply pipeline so that people may not suffer any shortage of water and ensure uninterrupted water supply.
