Trafficking troubles

LAHORE – Security experts reveal that trafficking of illegal weapons from one part of the country to the other is an easy thing to do; the smugglers move freely!

There are hundreds of arms factories and home-made plants operating in Darra Adam Khel, located in the northwest Pakistan close to Afghanistan, and most of its population is involved in weapons trafficking.
“The government should legalise the manufacturing and trade of arms in the tribal areas, if the authorities cannot control or check the trafficking,” experts suggest.
They say the manufacturers in tribal areas are so expert that they can easily manufacture a gun 100 per cent similar to American and Chinese guns. “A pistol is available for Rs4,000 in Darra. When it is smuggled into Karachi or Punjab, its price swells manifold,” a police officer said.
