LWMC, PU join hands for cleanliness drive in schools

LAHORE - Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), Punjab University student members of Youth Environment Society (YES) and Caritas Pakistan Lahore have joined hands to impart awareness about safe treatment and disposal of waste among school students.
The LWMC, Caritas Pakistan and YES from PU conducted different awareness activities and special lectures and demonstration sessions across the City in order to mark World Environment Day (June 5).
The LWMC also made sure complete clean up of these schools for these activities. This special drive continued from May 24 to May 31. During the clean up operation, LWMC also cleared five waste filled plots in the area and also did community meetings in order to make the residents conscious about the cleanliness of their area. Some 32 tons of waste was removed from the area to make it waste free. During this week, waste bags were also distributed to every household so that the residents may use these and place them outside the house for LWMC staff to collect it at a given time.  President Youth Environmental Society Punjab University Mr Yasir and Vice President Ms Ayesha gave presentations in schools about preserving water and energy. They told the students about the harms being caused to the environment due to community’s negligence.
LWMC and PU society formed student action committees with school students as representatives for the proper utilisation of resources like electricity, gas and water. A special committee was formed to oversee waste management habits of students in order to reduce waste and for its proper disposal.
