LAHORE – A middle-aged man allegedly gunned down his wife and 26-year-old daughter, also widow of one of Raymond Davis’ victims, here in Johar Town in the vicinity of Township police and fled away, police said on Monday.
The killer, identified as Shahzad Butt, gunned down Zohra Faizan, widow of Raymond Davis’ victim Faizan Haider, and her mother Nabeela at their residence (52-B-1) in Johar Town and managed to escape from the crime scene.
Police investigators said that the killer murdered his wife and daughter as the ill-fated widow wanted to contract second marriage against the will of her father.
According to family members of the deceased women, Shahzad Butt wanted Zohra marrying Faizan’s brother while Zohra and her mother were against it.
The dead body of the widow, Zohra, was lying in a pool of blood in the street as we rushed to the spot, investigators said, adding her mother was shot dead inside the house. Local residents contacted the police after listening to the gunfire and witnessing the dead bodies. The police reached the spot and removed the bodies to the morgue for autopsy.
On the day of incident, police investigations said, Shahzad Butt exchanged harsh words with his wife and daughter when he came to know about the second marriage of Zohra. He got infuriated, took out his gun, and shot them dead one by one.
First, he killed his wife and then started chasing his daughter who tried to escape from the house to save her life. He fired at the widow in the street, shot her dead, and escaped from the crime scene. Both the women sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot.
A local security guard, Sanaullah, told reporters that he heard firing at afternoon and later saw Zohra’s body outside the house while Nabeela was lying on the porch of the house.
Local residents said that they used to hear screaming and hue and cry from the residence which indicates that domestic brawl had become a routine matter for them.
Another police source claimed that Zahra had secretly married to someone a month ago and when her father came to know about it, he became furious and killed his daughter and wife. Zohra and her family had shifted to posh locality in Township after accepting blood money share worth millions of rupees.
Faizan Haider and Faheem Shamshad had been shot dead by American CIA contractor Raymond Davis at Jail road near Mozang Chowk on January 26, 2011. Faizan had left behind a small family, which included his pregnant wife Zohra. The bilateral ties between United States and Pakistan started debilitating over Raymond Davis issue.  The police have registered the double-murder case and are investigating with no arrest made so far.
