Foreign experts to attend international dengue moot

LAHORE – Medical experts and entomologists from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia will attend the international conference on dengue to be organised by the Punjab government on November 10-11.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will be the chief guest at main function and inaugural session of the conference to be held on November 10 at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal. The proceedings of technical sessions will be recorded and documented for future benefit and as a guideline for other provinces and countries.
Chairing a meeting held here on Wednesday to review arrangements for the conference, Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the purpose of holding the event was to benefit from the experience of other countries, besides acknowledging the efforts of government departments, enthusiastic participation of the masses, and close cooperation and assistance of international experts for controlling dengue menace in a short span of time.
Besides public representatives from Lahore, secretaries, special secretaries and senior officers of various government departments including Health, Education, Information and Culture, Rescue 1122, Police, Commissioner and DCO Lahore also attended the meeting. in the meeting, different responsibilities were assigned to various departments, Commissioner and DCO Lahore for making this event a success.
Salman Rafique said that international experts were surprised over Punjab government’s achievement of controlling worst ever dengue epidemic in a very short span of time with the active participation of general public and government departments. He said that international experts were coming to admire and acknowledge the efforts of the Punjab chief minister.
He said that public representatives, officers and officials of various government departments, members of civil society, media and other segments of the society, who had contributed in controlling dengue epidemic, have been invited to attend this function.
The Punjab Chief Minister will distribute prizes and shields among the participants displaying outstanding performance for their encouragement. He said that success of controlling dengue would be celebrated with the people of Punjab. He informed that technical sessions of International Dengue Conference would be held at Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
