School heads and teachers have been complaining that though just one month is left in the submission of admission forms for the 9th class examination, the board is yet to make public the pattern of papers, creating pre-exam problems for both students and teachers. School heads told this reporter that they had repeatedly requested the board to share the model papers but in vain.
“The Punjab government has strictly ordered the heads of public schools to ensure hundred per cent results but the delay will be a hurdle in meeting this target,” they said.
The Punjab Text Book Board changed the entire syllabus of 9th class, except that of the subject of Computer Science, in March.
In October, the Lahore Bise issued a notification under the title ‘Scheme of Studies for Secondary School Examination Under Part System for Academic Year 2012-14 Onwards’. According to the notification, the board divided the marks of Secondary School Certificate as 550 each for 9th and 10th classes and also changed the method of evaluation for practical examinations.
A teacher said on the condition of anonymity that the board should have issued the model papers at the beginning of the session in April, so that teachers could accordingly prepare students. However, because of the lethargic attitude of the authorities concerned, the same have so far not been issued. He said that heads of different institutions were approaching the board in this regard, but the matter was still in limbo.
Another matter of concern is that the Punjab Text Book Board failed to supply the changed practical notebook to public schools, because of which the teachers were unable to teach the students a practical question of 10 marks.
When contacted, Lahore Bise spokesman Qaisar Virk said that the model papers for 9th class had been finalised and would be soon made public after seeking approval of the Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen.
