PPP to observe Black Day on 5th

July 02, 2012

LAHORE – The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will observe black day on July 5 to denounce the military coup staged Gen Ziaul Haq on this date against former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Exactly 35 years ago, Zia overthrew the Bhutto government on the pretext of massive rigging in general elections followed by a movement launched by the PNA, a religious alliance comprising nine parties.
PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has directed party office-bearers and workers to organise activities across the country to observe the day.
Party members have been asked to organise ceremonies, seminars and other activities to condemn the army’s intervention in political matters and the dismissal of elected governments.
The PPP believes that Zia introduced Kalashnikov and drug culture in the country, besides fanning sectarianism, to crush the party’s leadership.
