Senior PTI leaders from Southern Punjab – including Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Jehangir Tareen, Afzal Sindhu and Ijaz Chaudhary – stressed during a party meeting that Imran Khan needed to pay more attention to the region, besides visiting it at the earliest.
Other party leaders from Southern Punjab who attended the meeting included Rafique Haider Leghari, Zafar Iqbal Warriach, Shaukat Ali Laleka, Husain Jehanian Gardezi, Aurangzeb Khichi, Shaukat Hayat Bosan and Mian Afzal Hayat.
The majority of PTI leaders proposed during the meeting that intra-party polls should be postponed until the upcoming general elections, since that would give party leaders an opportunity to focus their energies on the latter. However, some party leaders, especially Ijaz Chaudhary, believed that intra-party polls should be held at all costs and completed before the end of this month.
The PTI leaders alleged that a well-planned and systemic disinformation campaign had been launched against the party to counter Imran Khan’s popularity. They proposed that a special election strategy should be devised for Southern Punjab, considering the region’s political importance.
