Moot on women’s empowerment

LAHORE - Gender Reform Action Plan (GRAP), Women Development Department, Government of the Punjab, organized a consultative session at S&GAD Committee Room, Civil Secretariat. Additional Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries and Section Officers of various provincial departments participated.
The session was a part of the series arranged on the directions of Secretary Women Development, Ms Irum Bokhari, for advocating and lobbying on women empowerment package 2012 announced by Chief Minister Punjab on International Women’s Day. Ms Bushra Khaliq briefed the participants on ‘Protection of Women against Harassment at Workplace Act 2010’. Existence of sexual harassment in society and in particular harassment against women at workplace was discussed in detail. The myths and stereotypes related to the women and sexual harassment were communicated to the participants. The participants showed their concerns on some gaps in the harassment act.
The Package was presented by Mr Waheed Iqbal Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, GRAP and Umar Farooq Malik Gender Specialist Home Department. Ms. Arifa Shakeel was the moderator of the session. Participants were briefed on the package and then they were requested to suggest an effective strategy for implementation across the province at all government tiers.
