In this connection, a seminar was held at Hameed Nizami Hall by Hameed Nizami Memorial Society that was attended by senior politicians, civil society activists and journalists. A close friend of Hameed Nizami Col (r) Amjad Hussain Syed presided over the sitting. NPT Chairman and TheNation Editor-in-Chief Majid Nizami, Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal, Dr Rafique Ahmad, Mian Waleed Ahmad Sharqpuri, Bushra Rehman, Dr Parveen Khan, Col (r) Ikram Ullah, Ataur Rehman, Dr Ajmal Niazi, Abdul Qadir Hasan, SM Zafar, CPNE President and Daily Jurat Chief Editor Jamil Athar, Liaqat Baloch, TheNation Editor Salim Bokhari, Shahid Rasheed were among the participants.
They offer Fateh for Hameed Nizami and prayed for Majid Nizami’s long and healthy life. “Hameed Nizami turned the Muslim youth of the sub-continent into a force. He was a man of character having features of unwavering will, continuous endeavour and perseverance. He organised the Muslim Students Federation and launched the Nawa-i-Waqt from Lahore,” the speakers said.
The participants expected that other journalists would be as responsible and committed to the profession as great journalist Hameed Nizami was. Speaking on the occasion, Amjad Hussain said Hameed Nizami was a gift to the nation and after his death his younger brother (Majid Nizami) worked with same spirit. From 1962, Majid Nizami is a true custodian of his elder brother’s mission.
No one can deter him from uttering Kalma-e-Haq in front of dictators, he said, adding that he was a proud Pakistani and made efforts to actualise and continue Hamid Nizamis mission. Amjad Hussain reminisced days he spent with late Hameed Nizami and said Allama Iqbal was their ideal. He told that his friendship with Hameed Nizami had started in 1934 which continued till February 25, 1962 the day Hamid Nizami breathed his last. Despite this, he is still alive in my mind and heart, he said. About Majid Nizami, he was of the opinion that despite Mr Nizami’s great position and towering personality, the latter was very humble and kind person.
Jamil Athar said that Hameed Nizami criticized bad deeds of the dictator and Majid Nizami continued it. Thanks to the struggle made by the Nizami brothers, there is no place for aristocracy to rule over the poor masses.
Salim Bokhari said that Hameed Nizami was a true journalist who fought for cause and Majid Nizami followed his brother’s footprints.
Mian Waleed Ahmad Sharqpuri said that Nizamis by saying right word did jehad. Bushra Rehman said that Two Nation Theory could not be wiped out from minds of Pakistanis. Abdul Qadir Hasan said that he was a humble pupil of Hameed Nizami in the sense that he was role model for all the journalists.
Talking about ethics, SM Zafar said: “To follow Nizamis in the profession means, you follow ethics by design”. “Hameed Nizami raised slogan that Pakistan was vital and Majid Nizami said no power could spoil an atomic Pakistan,” Nasira Javed Iqbal said.
The speakers said Hameed Nizami was a man of character having features of unwavering will, continuous endeavour and perseverance. Upon his death, his younger brother (Majid Nizami) continued his elder brother’s mission whole-heartedly by unremittingly publishing the Nawa-i-Waqt, Daily TheNation, Family and Phool magazines and Waqt TV and neither anybody could threaten nor bend him, they added.
