LAHORE – Inspector General of Police Punjab Muhammad Habibur Rehman has sought recommendations from all the senior police officers whether the police uniform should be changed.
All the RPOs and DPOs have been directed to submit their proposals in this regard during next RPOs conference to be held at the provincial police headquarters. Police sources said that the government is seriously considering to change the police uniform in order to create soft image of the largest police force of the country. Therefore, the provincial police chief has asked the RPOs and DPOs and sectional heads of the police department to submit their recommendations.
According to official sources, the decision to this effect was taken during the RPO conference held here at PHQ on Tuesday. CCPO Lahore, RPOs of Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Multan and all DPOs of the province attended the conference.
The officers also decided in the meeting that weekly off for the police employees would be continued and all senior officers would ensure one weekly off for each policeman before finalising the duty roaster of their subordinates. This decision will be helpful to improve the overall performance of the police employees, the IGP added.
In the meeting it was also decided that the old name of CPO will be restored instead of PHQ. The IGP further said that in order to handle all pending cases of promotions of various police officers, a formal request has been moved to High Court, seeking its guidance to settle the issue. A proposal for the transfer of traffic wardens from one district to other was reviewed in detail. The field police officers briefed the IGP that kidnapping for ransom incidents have been decreased by 99 per cent in the province.
The meeting was also informed that during the last one month about 50 most wanted POs had been arrested from various districts whereas 1972 most wanted gangsters involved in heinous crimes like dacoity, robbery, dacoity-cum-murder, motor vehicle snatching and cattle lifting were also arrested so far.  IGP Punjab directed the Regional Police Officers to keep consecutive monitoring of Maddaris (religious schools), banned organisations and subversive elements involved in sectarianism.
It was also decided two days refresher courses for the DPOs will be conducted including crime scene investigation.
