True democracy a distant dream: Justice (r) Allah Nawaz

LAHORE –Former High Court Chief Justice Allah Nawaz while addressing a seminar on “Pakistan-Nuclear State to Welfare State” here on Sunday said that “Kleptocracy, that is a government of the thieves, by the thieves and for the thieves, is in progress in the country while true democracy is a distant dream. The bourgeois have united to defend corruption in the country and the solution to all the problems lies in developing simplicity in culture and in establishing a welfare state.” The seminar was arranged by Unified Media Club.

Justice (r) Nawaz said that people in Pakistan had bigger homes and countless wealth as compared to Europeans. The influential people in the country, including feudal have developed consensus on defending corruption, he added that they have been united since 1949 when they cancelled the Proda Act that was meant to punish the corrupt politicians. Justice said that the fate of the country lay in the hands of youth who could bring a revolution. The country can come out of the crises if it followed Islamic rule and become a welfare state.
Pakistan Agri-Forum Chairman Ibrahim Mughal on the occasion said that the current budget was nothing but a jugglery of digits, adding that around two million corrupt people have grabbed 34 percent of the countries resources. “We, on one hand, talk about friendship with India but deny construction of Kala Bagh Dam.” He said that all the national institutions had become tainted by corruption. Kakke Zai Association Chairman Brig (r) Inamullah said that only latest education could help resolve the mental paralysis the nation was facing.
Pakistan Engineers Forum Chairman Imtiaz Hussain Shah said that the nuclear country had become a victim to energy crisis and the slogan of privatization was a fraud.
He demanded the government to import gas from Iran irrespective of US pressure and ensure construction of Kala Bagh Dam instantly. Dr Asimullah Baksh said that the true stake holders of welfare state were the masses.
The Helpline Chief Ikhlaq-ur-Rehman said that they should be proud of Allah Almighty who had blessed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Ch with an International Jurist Award in UK.
Other speakers included Hafiz Muhammad Hassan, Asim Dogar, Ajmal Jami, Ehtasham-ur-Rehman and Sher Dil Khan.
