Dengue employees protest for regularisation

LAHORE – Contract employees of Punjab Dengue Control Programme on Sunday staged a demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club and marched to Aiwan-e-Iqbal to press for the demand of regularisation of their services.
Carrying placards and banners inscribed with writing in favour of their demands, dozens of participants chanted slogans against the govt. The Police stopped protesters from going on The Mall. The participants remained on the roads for about one and half an hours, causing massive traffic jam even on a holiday.
Referring to the government announcement regarding confirmation of one lakh contract employees, paramedics leader Shakil Ahmed said that those serving with PDCP were not given this facility. He said that thousands of contract employees in various departments were deprived of confirmation which was injustice. He demanded the government to immediately announce confirmation of PDCP contract employees to end restlessness. He said that the employees would perform duties on Polio Day while wearing black ribbon on arms.
