IGP orders merit-based recruitments in police

LAHORE – The Punjab Police department has finalised the schedule and procedure for the recruitment of 4,081 constables including lady constables in 29 districts of the province. The recruitment boards have strictly been directed to ensure transparent and merit-based recruitments. At least 10 per cent quota has been fixed for women applicants to be recruited in the police in urban districts. However, 5 per cent quota of the overall seats has been fixed for the women applicants in the rural districts. It was decided in a high-level meeting presided over by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Habibur Rehman at Central Police Office on Monday.  According to a police spokesman, the meeting finalised recommendations for the recruitments in the police department. It was also decided that a senior officer of the rank of SSP would be member of the Recruitment Board apart from the DIG, and the DPO. The meeting also decided that a joint Recruitment Board of two districts could also be established with the approval of the competent authority. In order to avoid legal complications, it was further decided that only the final list of the successful candidates would be displayed and there would be no waiting-list. The Domicile of the candidate would be verified through the NIC. The meeting also decided that particulars of the candidates would be completed before the issuance of appointment orders while the measurement of the candidates would be carried out after the (one-mile) competition race. The grace marks for the children of serving and retired policemen have been extended to 10 from seven. The recruitment would be carried out strictly as per the schedule owing to the upcoming Holy month of Ramazan. According to the final schedule issued for the recruitment of constables and lady constables, the application forms would be available at the offices of the CPO and DPO concerned from today (June 4). The last date for submission of application forms would be June 18. The documents will be checked and verified from June 19 to June 25. The lists of the successful candidates for physical test would be displayed on June 26. The process of physical tests would be completed from June 28 to July 3. The list of the successful candidates of the physical test would be displayed on July 4. The written test will be held on July 6 while the list of the successful candidates will be displayed July 8. The candidates will be interviewed from July 10 to July 13. The final lists of the successful candidates will be displayed on July 14.  An officer of a DIG rank would be the Chairman of the Recruitment Board in each district while the concerned DPO would be the Secretary of the Board and an officer of SSP rank will also assist the Board to ensure transparent and merit-based recruitments. On this occasion, the Provincial Police Chief Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman ordered the police to ensure foolproof and extra-ordinary security arrangements in and around the recruitment and examination centers, where all the applicants should be provided good atmosphere so that they could feel comfortable while appearing in the tests and interviews. Additional IGP Malik Khuda Bakhsh Awan, Additional IGP PHP Khan Baig, Addl: IGP Traffic Punjab Qalb-e-Abbas, Addl: IGP Special Branch Punjab Nasir Khan Durani, Addl: IGP CTD Mushtaq Sukhera, Addl: IGP R&D Anwar Virk, Addl: IGP Training, Punjab Naseem ul Zaman Siddiqui, Addl: IGP Welfare and Finance, Sarmad Saeed, CCPO Lahore Aslam Tareen, DIG Training Abid Qadri, DIG Headquarter Punjab Muhammad Tahir, DIG Establishment B.A Nasir and AIG Legal Ehsan Ullah Bajwa attended the meeting.
