LAHORE – Hundreds of poor litigants who come from remote areas of the province to the Lahore High Court in pursuance of their cases would have to wait for another day since lawyers have announced that they would boycott court proceedings on Tuesday (today) to protest against the death of a female colleague and police apathy in her case.Advocate Fozia Bashir, a resident of Shadbagh, was brutally tortured by her relatives a few days ago. She approached the police for registration of a case against the culprits, but her application was not entertained. Meanwhile, Fozia succumbed to her injuries.Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) Vice Chairman Malik Ghulam Abbas Nissoana announced on Monday that City lawyers would boycott court proceedings today (Tuesday) to protest against to death of Fozia Bashir Advocate. He requested the lawyers not to appear before the judges in their cases and observe complete strike. The PbBC also threatened with dire consequences in case the police failed to arrest the killers of the female lawyer.In a resolution passed on Monday in a meeting called to offer fateh for the departed souls of lawyers, the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) condemned Fozia Bashir’s death and demanded the arrest of her killers at the earliest. The LHCBA also constituted a committee under the head of Secretary Sardar Akbar Ali Dogar to provide legal aid to the heirs of the deceased. The bar also condemned the misbehaviour of Shadbagh DSP Qaiser Mushtaq and ASI Sadiq with the late Fozia Bashir.
