He made this claim while addressing a press conference at State Guesthouse on Wednesday after briefing his party chief Shujaat Hussain about its political strategy and seat adjustment formula for the upcoming polls.
Elahi avoided questions raised by reporters on the issue of seat adjustments with the PPP. However, he took a swipe at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz over its programmes like Sasti Roti, Tandoor Scheme, Food Stamp Programme, Ashiana Housing Scheme, Daanish School System, Green Tractor Scheme etc.
The PML-Q leader claimed that he left the largest province of the country “economically prosperous” while the PML-N has turned it into a “bankrupt” province. He alleged that the Sharif brothers did not believe in serving the people thus they halted all the development projects launched by his government.
Elahi claimed that he had undertaken more development projects in five years than that of in the past 55 years. He asserted that growth rate in Punjab was at 8 per cent in 2007, while the overall growth rate of the country was 7.3 per cent and the current growth of the province came down to 1.8 per cent. He said he would resume the journey to development after coming into power following the upcoming general election.
Other leaders Saeed Khan Mandokhel, Muhammad Basharat Raja, Ch Zaheeruddin Khan and Rana Asif Tauseef were present at the press conference while Haleem Adil Sheikh, Chaudhary Anwar Ali Cheema, Ghaus Bakhsh Maher, Jam Muhammad Yousuf, Sardar Bahadur Khan Sehr, Ghias Mela, Mir Naseer Mengal, Sardar Shah Jehan Yousuf, Malik Nauman Langrial, Khawaja Sheeraz Mahmud, Syed Qasim Shah, Moonis Elahi, Ahmad Yar Heraj and Imtiaz Ranjha attended the briefing.
