Inquiry into child abuse demanded

LAHORE – Child Rights Movement (CRM) Punjab, a network of 28 Organization working on the child rights issues showed its concern over the child abuse incident happened in the Child Protection & Welfare Bureau, Faisalabad.
In a statement issued by the CRM, it was demanded that independent inquiry should be held to investigate the sensitive issue. CRM spokesperson Iftikhar Mubarik demanded that Punjab Government should show the serious concern on the shameful incident occurred in Faisalabad in a government institute. He also demanded that the civil society organizations should be the part of inquiry team so nobody could influence the inquiry process.
Despite of this CRM is also concerned over the monitoring mechanisms of CPWB facilities in which a visible number of children are residing and this particular issue reflected the gaps in check and balance system of bureau.
Bureau should immediately review its minimum caring standards to avoid such kind of incidents in future, because it seems that children coming from streets are also not safe.
